Some Kind of Scifi - Downfall

"We were meant to create, not destroy. I believe the human race's need for conflict can be surpassed by taking the next step in evolution and only then can we thrive in this universe. I just need to figure out how to speed up this process before there is no one left to save." General Slade

There has been some experimentation with DNA throughout the Galaxy for quite some time, but scientists still can't change DNA drastically to the point to make humans "perfect". The only known discovery to come from these experiments is that humans can accelerate their adaptation to unlikely habitable planets, but it is rumored that Sector 8 of the Galactic Army has made a startling breakthrough in DNA research. But it is also rumored that everything was stolen from the Sector 8 research databases by a pirate hacker.

Sector 8 Galactic Battleships are currently on their way to Sector 5. They have come to have a secret meeting with General Aris to form an alliance as they also fear that war is inevitable. Sector 8 is led by General Ozmon Slade, a very knowledgeable old general. His face hides behind a long flowing silver beard and he is very tall and slender but has a powerful presence as if those around him can sense his awesome wisdom and intelligence. He wears gray and blue robes underneath a piece of plate mail and also wears an intricate metallic helmet which has a bluish glow.

General Slade believes it is more important to study the human race to make it better as a whole rather than develop powerful weaponry to destroy it. He also finds it crucial to study and research human DNA and everyone under his command, fortunately for him, feels the same. Most of General Slade's officers see him as a father figure and respect his seemingly infinite wisdom and thus follow his every command.

General Slade and his small fleet of Sector 8 Galactic Battleships arrive to a Sector 5 military headquarters and are greeted by one of General Aris's officers. He frantically greets General Slade "Welcome I'm so glad you finally made it, unfortunately General Aris cannot meet with you anymore."

General Slade gazes at the officer and immediately senses that Sector 5 was attacked and lost their general. He turns and looks at his guards, who wear similar helmets as the general, and they seem to acknowledge a command. The guards bow towards the troubled officer and General Slade speaks with sympathy, "I am sorry for what happened to your people but it is now the past. We must now plan and collaborate our forces to prevent Galactic war."

The officer becomes awestruck as if General Slade's intelligence emanated from every word he just spoke. The officer then responds with sincerity "Yes sir, follow me. The others are waiting." General Slade and his guards follow the officer into a large auditorium filled with thousands of high ranking officers who seem to immediately welcome his presence. General Slade discusses his plans with everyone and he shares with them some of Sector 8's technology in the agreement that Sector 5 will share some of their technology.

A small personal space craft traveling at an alarming rate speeds up on a galactic ship and as the small craft gets closer to the ship it slows down and begins to hover behind it. Inside the galactic ship everyone is celebrating their recent "victory". Major Pierce is also celebrating, but he is by himself in a poorly lit room in some back corner of the ship where no one will find him. He is sitting at a desk holding an empty wine bottle and the last of a cigar that has gone out. He is just staring at a computer screen trying to figure out his next move. Underneath his smug looks and harsh demeanor, he is just a fool who can only plan a single move ahead.

An airlocked door opens and makes a ridiculous amount of noise. Some drunken guards turn to look with stupid looks on their faces. They see Colonel Myron walk through the door. The guards are too drunk to notice any subtle irregularities and they greet the Colonel. One of the guards blurts out "Sir we did it! We attacked Sector 5 and we took down two ships!"

The other guard yells "Yea they went down like bitches, sir!" The Colonel stares at the guards blankly and then walks off. They look to each other in confusion and shrug their shoulders.

The Colonel makes his way to the center of the ship where there is a high security room. He puts his hand on a pad by the door and it scans his DNA. The door opens and a voice from a hidden speaker says "Welcome, Colonel Myron." The Colonel now stands in a room which is all white with three tables in the center of the room. The objects on the tables are covered with cloth. Colonel Myron cracks a sinister smile and lifts his hand. A small cube levitates out of his hand and he begins the transformation back into his real self, Dolosus Black. This was too easy. I didn't expect the fools to be celebrating something, especially something as stupid as starting a war. Maybe everyone will be distratced by this.

Dolosus looks at the tables and remembers that he is running out of time. He goes to the table on the left first and looks under the cover. Piece of shit, why would they even consider this useful. He moves on the next table. Interesting but not what im here for. Dolosus pulls out a small torch and cuts off a piece of metal and moves on to the last table. This must be it. He lifts the cover and a silver glow emanates from undermeath. His eyes grow wide and he immediately snatches everything on the table, cover and all. An alarm sounds and lights drop down from the ceiling. Shit this is the last thing I need. Dolosus looks down at his arm and the vile is running low. He runs out into the hallway and sees drunken idiots running all over the place. He makes a break for his ship.

As a guard runs past a door in a random corner of the ship, the door busts open and the guard launches into the wall. Major Pierce is standing in the doorway and shouts "LOCK DOWN THE SHIP YOU FOOLS" and he begins to run towards the center of the ship. Meanwhile as Dolosus is trying to escape he comes around a corner and sees three officers being escorted by a handful of guards. Dolosus has a look of frustration on his face as he reaches into his coat.

One of these officers points at Dolosus, enraged, "THERE HE IS, GET 'EM!" As the guards begin to drunkenly stumble towards Dolosus, he drops a small metallic canister and dips back behind the corner and braces himself as it rolls towards the officers' feet. Dolosus hears cries of death as light flashes and an explosion rings out. Dolosus continues his escape as he hurdles over charred remains.

Dolosus finally makes it back to the airlock door he entered the ship from. He opens the door and then he hears a voice behind him yell out "HEY YOU!" Dolosus looks down at his arm and realizes that his time has run out. He closes the device still wrapped in a cover in the airlock door and turns. He sees Major Pierce walking towards him and he can tell he is the one in charge of this renegade ship. The Major then charges Dolosus, swinging like a mad man, and starts beating on Dolosus who is in a daze. The Major knocks him to the floor and then Dolosus snaps into a fit of rage. With blazing speed Dolosus dashes to his feet and lifts the Major over his head. Dolosus lets out a battle cry and then slams the Major down on his knee which makes a horrible crunch. Now Dolosus stands over the Major who is twitching and squirming in pain on the floor. He looks up at Dolosus and questions "Who...who are...you?" Dolosus is out of his mysterious green substance and can't think straight and can't come up with a good response to the pathetic Major. Then Dolosus cracks his lips and whispers "I am the future," and then he stomps the Major's head and crushes it with disturbing ease. Dolosus then has a moment of clarity and leaves the ship, grabbing the covered device on his way out. When Dolosus gets back to his ship he drops the device on the floor and immediately heads for his replacement viles. He gets a new vile in his arm and slumps back in his chair with relief. I really need to find a new way to deal with this shit. His small craft then disappears into the blackness of space and successfully escapes with his new peice of technology.

What's next for Dolosus Black and what is this stolen technology? Will the new alliance of sectors 8 and 5 avenge General Aris and his men? Or do they have more noble plans?

Some Kind of Scifi- Imminent Danger

I sense great tension building between the other sectors of the Galactic Army. I only hoped for everlasting peace among the human race, but even I must admit that there is something inside us all that strives for conflict. General Aris Despero

I'm tired of being under the constant watchful eye of the Galactic Army. There must be something in this universe for me. I can't escape the Galactic Army's grasp without using similar technology. I guess I'll just have to take some. Pirate Captain Vigeon

Sector 5 has a more peaceful feel to it. The Galactic Army in Sector 5 is for protecting it's citizens, rather than abusing their power. Unfortunately most citizens don't have the technology to travel between sectors. General Aris Despero is known throughout the star systems in Sector 5 as a wise and fair leader who wants the best for the entire galaxy and the human race's development. But those who have seen him lately can tell that he is not the same as he was when he took command of Sector 5. The general has lost his hope in the Galactic Army and their so called "goals for peace".

A small personal craft enters the atmosphere of a planet that is covered in dense jungles surrounded by vast oceans. While flying above this planet it would be hard to tell that humans occupied it, other than the satellites in the outer orbit. The ship goes closer to ground and then hovers in a clearing of a jungle. The ground seems to split in half leaving a perfectly sized entrance for the small craft, which then lowers into it. The ship lands in a well lit underground hangar. There are some people in the distance on computers too caught up in their work to be paying attention to their surroundings. The hatch on the ship opens and Colonel Myron jumps out. He doesn't say anything to anyone and runs off down a small corridor.

The colonel walks up to a door and starts typing a code into a keypad when he feels a presence behind him. He snaps around quickly out of fear, assuming the worst. "Oh...it's you," said the colonel with slight relief and confusion. He recognizes the man in front of him to be the mad man's partner who he assumed was standing behind him moments ago.

"Yes it is me, it is time for us to have a little chat," said the man calmly.

Colonel Myron answers reluctantly, "I guess so...is your partner...going to come here?"

The man responds with a subtle hint of sarcasm, "My partner? I forgot to tell you..." The man's skin begins to move like bubbling water. His blank expression slowly turns into a smile as his appearance begins to change drastically. Bones crack as he grows in height and his proportions even out. His face changes as if it were made out of puddy but the smile never changes. Now a completely different man stands before Colonel Myron. He has long, unkempt dread locks and a long, shaggy beard. He wears welding goggles as a head band and wears also a long coat which covers an array of shiny metallic items being held by a belt and bandoliers. He smiles as the colonel begins to quake in his unnecessarily shiny boots, and says with satisfaction "I am Dolosus Black, and I work alone. Now let's see what you're made of."

-------

Three large Galactic Battleships coast through the vastness of space with purpose. General Aris has been running constant training exercises for the last couple of months so that his army is ready for what he believes to be an inevitable conflict with other sectors of the Galactic Army. The general has also reached out to other sectors in a desperate attempt to make allies before it's too late. Most thought he was crazy or that he was planning an attack himself for suspecting The Pact between the sectors would be broken.

General Aris speaks into an intercom which goes through all three of the ship's speakers "We must be prepared for anything. I sense The Pact will be broken soon so we must be strong! Otherwise we will die. We shall stay vigilant and keep -" Alarms sound. Everyone stands around in confusion for they never heard the alarms go off before and never would have known there were alarms if they hadn't gone off.

"Sir, our communications aren't working, they're jammed," says an operator. The general whips around his head, looks out of the large cockpit window dumbfounded and sees a Galactic Battleship materialize, furiously unleashing an array of projectiles. One of the general's ships explodes and collapses immediately and falls out of formation. General Aris looks on in despair thinking about the thousands of people who just lost their lives in the blink of an eye. Why did I have to be right? I should have been able to stop this.

"GENERAL! What are your orders?" asks a random voice in the background. The general doesn't respond. He has a horrified stare on his face as if he died along with the thousands on the destroyed ship.

An officer on the other battleship begins shouting orders, "COUNTER ATTACK! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? FIRE EVERYTHING!" The two remaining Sector 5 ships fire back but seem helpless against the technology of this rogue battleship. The officer who just assumed command is immediately in over his head and decides to make a run for it. He orders his ship to turn around and head for Sector 5's Army Headquarters at top speed, ignoring what stress this kind of maneuver would have on the ship.

General Aris and his crew don't realize that the other ship has left. They continue to fire back at this unknown battleship doing no damage. General Aris is on his knees watching everything transpire, staring death in the face. What a pointless life. Then the general's ship jolts downward, everyone in the cockpit gets thrown around the room. The general lets out his last scream and gets splattered on the glass cockpit window along with some of his crew. The ship crumbles like a soda can and then explodes. The ship breaks up into several pieces and begins its descent into darkness.

A man sitting at a control panel on the rogue ship looks over his shoulder shaking and nervously asks"Sir should we follow them?"

Major Pierce is sitting behind him with a smile on his face and answers contentedly, "No, this is how I planned it. The surviving ship will return to the main base of Sector 5 and report an attack. We will just have to tell them who attacked when we bring up their communications and hack into them." The Major's ship then slowly turns into darkness and vanishes, returning from whence it came.

--------

Dolosus is standing over Colonel Myron's body which is in a heap on the floor. There's a large hole in the Colonel's torso and a vapor is flowing out of it. Dolosus crouches down and a small metallic cube levitates out of his palm. He gently grabs it and places it on the Colonel's lifeless hand. The cube gets absorbed and shortly levitates back out and it starts to emanate light. Dolosus has an uncanny grin on his face as he places the cube back in his own hand. He stands up and turns his back on the lifeless body and throws a small canister over his shoulder. The Colonel's body begins to decompose at a rapid rate. His arms and legs curl up and his body crumples like a dead leaf and he turns to dust. Dolosus starts to walk away, and his skin begins to crawl as his laughter echos down the corridor.

Some Kind Of SciFi - Stake Out

In the Milky Way Galaxy there is still no evidence of other beings, but some humans have adapted to their new homes. Not all of the planets inhabited by humans are like the origin planet known as Earth. Other than different colored skin and varying sizes, most adaptations are subtle except for humans on one planet that is located in sector 9. This planet is known as Aquilus.

The only humans that live on Aquilus are scientists and engineers as it is only recently discovered in the 4100s. Their job was to set up observatory bases and encampments just to gather information and evidence of long term livability. They soon discovered small geysers close to their outposts, and later found out that an unknown chemical flows out of these geysers. The scientists couldn't find any immediate effects of the unknown chemical, but when the exposed had offspring, there was something wrong with the infant children's DNA to the point that some developed strange mutations.

The scientists were not quite sure what went wrong with the newborns, but knew it occurred from this unknown chemical. They studied this chemical for twenty or so years and eventually managed to develop a green substance to counteract the chemical's negative effects. The substance is injected into the bloodstream, and those who need this substance to live wear a tube in their arm with an interchangeable vile. This substance seems to work for now, but whoever uses it has not been permitted to leave the planet as the people using it prove to have higher intelligence but unstable thinking patterns. It is rumored that one of these people escaped from the planet using leftover scrap metal and resources left unattended by the engineers.

Dolosus Black finally made it to Colonel Myron's ship. Dolosus created his own stealth technology using parts of old abandoned spacecrafts he found across the galaxy, so he will not be detected. He sometimes admires the ingenuity of his fellow humans for their technology, but laughs at their stupidity for not combining their efforts. So he salvages and combines their technologies and uses them for his own advantage. Dolosus is now tailing the Colonel's ship, watching and waiting for the moment to abduct the already paranoid officer so they can have a little chat.

Come on you bastard, I know we are near your home planet. I hacked into your feeble on-board computer systems, you're scheduled for a stop soon. JUST LEAVE THE SHIP ALREADY!
Dolosus reaches under his chair hastily and pulls out a small chrome case. Shaking and twitching he opens the case and a green glow immediately emits from it giving the whole cockpit a greenish hue. Inside the case there is a small green vile. He violently yanks the vile out of his arm and hurls it behind him. He then inserts the new vile with almost superhuman speed, the old vile smashes in the background. That was close. I got to keep my head, I can't mess this up.

Meanwhile on the Galactic Destroyer, Colonel Myron has called a meeting among the officers. They all meet on an upper deck of the ship in a dining area that is well decorated. Surely an average soldier would never be allowed in such an elegant place. It is also one of the only rooms on the ship with floor to ceiling windows granting a view of the stars in the vastness of space. Myron is known to spend more time there than anywhere else on the ship other than the control room. Major Pierce is not there however, but Colonel Myron doesn't even notice because he has other things on his mind. The other officers notice that something seems to be off about the Colonel as he keeps looking over his shoulder every now and then with a look of fear in his eyes. Myron begins to speak and has a hint of leisure in his voice. "As you know we are scheduled to make a stop near my home planet. I will be leaving the ship for a couple of days to get a little vacation. I am also granting fifty officers a two day pass to come with me down to my home planet." The officers simultaneously think about what Major Pierce has done to their fellow officer and suddenly love the idea of a vacation, maybe a permanent one.

The doors of the dining area burst open almost coming off the hinges. Everyone whips around their heads frantically with their hands reaching for the strange weapons they wear at their sides, expecting a mad man to run through ready to kill everyone in the room with a sadistic smile on his face. In walks Major Pierce with his hands crossed behind his back, he is calm and has his trademark smug look the other officers now know all too well. Everyone begins to settle down and they take their hands away from their sidearms, some more hesitant than others. Major Pierce starts to clear his throat. He looks to Colonel Myron and says calmly " Colonel, maybe you should reconsider. No need to lose your head." Major Pierce looks over at a few of the officers and gives a little wink and then continues. "It's one thing if you want to leave the ship, I can't stop you, but perhaps I need those fifty officers to stay here. Just in case something were to happen." Although the Major isn't the commanding officer, everyone seems to obey his subtle commands. The Colonel at this point is at the verge of breaking down. Between the Major and the strange conversation with an unknown space pilot that talks down to a Colonel in the Galactic Army, Myron is just thinking about getting off this ship and maybe for good.

Colonel Myron seems to crack. He answers the Major with cold sweat running down his face "I just don't care anymore, I've got to get off this ship NOW! You can keep everybody else." The other officers don't like this idea as they do not want to be left on the ship with Major Pierce in full command.

One of the officers tries to say something "Sir you can't just leave us here with -" The Colonel runs out of the room before the officer can finish. The atmosphere in the room instantly as all the officers see the Major standing there looking at them. He almost cracks a smile.

Major Pierce looks around at all of their faces and begins to speak. "Well gentlemen, it is just us now. I guess we can proceed with our little plan." None of the officers muster up the courage to disagree with the Major and he barks "Get to your posts! As soon as the Colonel leaves the ship, we head for Sector 5."

Dolosus Black is still waiting for a sign of the Colonel leaving the ship. Lucky for him the Colonel is losing his mind. Dolosus sees a personal craft leaving the ship in a hurry. There he is. He is alone, this couldn't have worked out any better. Dolosus slams a lever forward and his ship takes off.

Will Major Pierce's plan to attack Sector 5 go as he planned? What will become of the timid Colonel? Will Dolosus Black get what he wants?

Some Kind of SciFi - Part 1

" Space....some call it a final frontier. I call it a stepping stone, maybe one of the biggest stepping stones known to mankind," Dolosus Black

"No matter how hard we try to live in peace, there is always the dark void inside of us that can only be filled by war," Major of Galactic Army, sector 9

In the year 4165 mankind has established military outposts across the galaxy. A lot has changed, and our addiction to technology continues to grow. The Milky Way Galaxy is now ruled by the Galactic Army, a military coalition from multiple star systems and they maintain a general pact to defend the galaxy from threats foreign and domestic. Each star system keeps all of their technological advances secret from each other just in case the pact breaks. The Galactic Army as a whole controls the greatest technology in the known universe; ordinary citizens of the galaxy can't even comprehend the military's simplest of devices.

Life is much different than it was in the old times. Mankind has finally stopped fighting with each other and turned their focus and ingenuity towards their technology and striving as a whole in the universe. But there are many who disagree with the Galactic Army and their secret experiments and don't trust that the pact will remain intact for much longer as tension builds between star systems. This has led to rebel pirates attempting to capture star ships and try to hack into military super computers, but not for money. They do it for the secret technologies and the chance to capture powerful weapons so they no longer have to obey the strict regulations of the Galactic Army and can pursue their own dreams of exploring space in their own way.

Inside a dark and cluttered spaceship there are no sounds except for a control panel beeping and buzzing. There is a man sitting at a computer looking at blue prints to some kind of space craft. The man looks as if he has been up for days. He has blood shot eyes, pale skin, dry and cracked lips, and a tube sticking out of his arm with green liquid flowing through it. The walls of the ship are decorated with odd metallic objects that lost a bit of their luster, maybe at one time they were fascinating devices but now they do nothing but hang on a wall waiting to be salvaged. There is also a small shiny metal cube the size of a fingernail next to the computer. It has very small etchings on it, binary code, it says "Dolosus Black". Who knows what this strange piece of technology is used for and what it is capable of.

The intercom beeps. "This is Colonel Myron of The Galactic Army, sector 9. Your partner has contacted me saying you need my help. He just gave me this number and said there would be a reward."

Finally the break I've been looking for. I can use this asshole to get onto the ship. Dolosus says to himself with a diabolical grin on his face. He pushes the button to the intercom. "Yes but we must meet in person. No one can know about this."

Myron answers with uncertainty. "This seems suspicious. What's your name and serial number?"

Dolosus responds angrily "I am offering you 10 million credits and all I want to do is ask you questions. You don't need to know my name. I can always find someone else who can help me if you're not interested."

Myron answers sheepishly "No wait I'll meet you, please. Where should we meet?"

With no hint that he was angry a second ago, Dolosus says "I will find you and wait until you're alone."

Timid and on the verge of shitting himself  Myron squeaks "You're freaking me out, what's all this about anyway?"

Dolosus turns off the intercom and starts to frantically collect random items from the computer.
I must hurry and get to this asshole before he tells anybody about our little arrangement. If he is as stupid as he sounds this might actually work. I just need his DNA.

In the war room of a Galactic Destroyer, military men are sitting around a transparent table with a three dimensional zone grid. It shows military ships in tactical positions to attack another star system, sector 5.  One of these men stands out from the rest, obviously the leader. Not the typical military leader, he is tall and thin and has a calm look about him. He also seems to be a little young to be a major in the Galactic Army, most of the other military leaders are older and more experienced. How he came to be major is unknown to the other officers. His name is Major Pierce. All of the other officers are talking while the major just sits there observing their confusion while they look at the strategic grid in front of them. Then the major clears his throat, the other officers become silent because of the major's odd presence. He begins to say "Gentlemen, the time draws near. Our attack could unleash the first galactic war, but it must be done."

A well decorated officer stands up quickly, knocking his chair to the ground, and slams the transparent table with fury. He shouts "How can you do this? We've had peace for so long and you want to be the one to ruin it. I will not sit here and listen to your bullshit and watch you ruin all that humanity has worked for."

The Major stands up calmly with a smug look on his face and his chest puffed out. Then he slowly extends his finger tips on his right hand and a slight hum fills the room, then a strong pulse erupts from his hand, aimed  towards the angry officer. The officer's head explodes violently from the inside out, as if a bomb went off inside his head, and the brain and skull matter begin to slowly evaporate in a spiral toward the ceiling while the scent of burnt flesh and hair creep into the others' noses. The humming dies down while the officer's limp body slams to the floor in a heap, organs and blood fall out of where his head once was. A gruesome sight, one of the other officers screams and empties the contents of his stomach on the floor. The Major sits back down, his facial expression hasn't changed...still smug...still calm.

Major Pierce begins to speak again "Now that I have all of your attention. Think about all of the other armies out there, 13 sectors. Go ahead think about it. How do we know that they are not planning to attack us like we are planning to attack sector 5. Also think about their experiments, we have created powerful weapons so we must assume that they have made even more powerful ones. Why not take them by surprise and take a sector out at a time and blame another, we have the technology to do so. So are you with me or are you going to join your little friend there on the ground."

The body on the ground is still twitching and squirming in its own filth making a horrible sloshing noise  as the rest of the officers look down at it. They all look at each other horrified with a grimace and give a general nod to Major Pierce. He then smiles as everything falls into place and says to the officers "Good. Now that we are all on the same page, let me show you my plans."

The Major stands up and points to areas of the grid and begins to show the rest of the officers a grand scheme to pit the other star systems against each other using their powerful stealth technology. Meanwhile Dolosus is hurdling through space towards Colonel Myron,  who is on the same ship as the Major, to carry out his plan.

What is Dolosus's plan? Will he stop the Major from attacking sector 5?  We will find out next time in Some Kind of Scifi
